Hi Vital Volunteers!!!
I hope everyone had a safe Labor Day weekend and if your loved ones were in the path of
hurricane Gustav I do hope they all fared well and are with air conditioning, water and gasoline. I know my family and
friends in South Louisiana are starting to clean up the mess Gustav left behind and hopefully will receive power today. Here
in Houston I think the first week of September has been such a great one with beautiful weather
(no humidity!!) and lot’s going on!
To those volunteers who have helped the last few weeks thank you so much for all of the time
and hard work you have put forth; it is greatly appreciated. We will be having our new volunteer orientation Tuesday September 16th here at the office starting at 6pm. For those
of you that are interested please let me know so I can make sure I have training manuals available
for you. I do encourage everyone to attend these new volunteer trainings
at least once this year so that you will be able to receive a training manual which is actually to your benefit. There are
also forms I need filled out by every Vital Volunteer, which are mandatory. We are doing a lot of new things and have been
since my tenure started here at LifeGift a year ago and I want to make sure each of you receives the correct and adequate
information regarding the program here at LifeGift. If new or current volunteers are interested in attending the upcoming
training please call or email me!
We
have a lot of activities coming up in the next two-three months so I am going to go ahead and give you the dates and events
that have already been secured for the fall calendar.
Upcoming Events
- Wednesday September 17, 2008: Texas Southern University Health Fair
10am-2pm at the Recreation and Wellness Center on campus
Martha Gamez and Irene Speich will be working this event but if
anyone else would like to help please let me know!!
- Saturday Sept. 20: Good Hope Missionary
Baptist Church Health Fair
9am-2pm
3015 N. MacGregor Way- 77004 (between Almeda and Scott)
Angela Hawkins said that she would like to volunteer but I need
one-two more to help her. This is an important Health Fair because it is targeting the minority community, and the President
of the Harris County Hospital District
personally invited LifeGift to participate. I unfortunately will be out of state that weekend in California
.
- Sunday September 28, 2008: Univision and Children
at Risk Health Fair
11am-4pm

An expected 20,000 families will be present at this Health Fair
so if anyone who is bilingual would like to help Ariana please let me know. This is another great opportunity to reach out
to one of our minority communities!
- Saturday October 4: Greater Galilee M.B.C. Health Fair
9am-1pm
4637
Gano, 77009
An audience of over 200+ are expected to
be in attendance. I would need at least 2 Volunteers to help man a booth at this Health Fair, and this is a great opportunity
to reach out to the minority populations in Houston !
- Saturday October 4: Stephen F. Austin High School Walk honoring
former student Tracey Hester as a donor
2pm-4pm
Stephen F. Austin High School/ Sugarland
I received a phone call from a classmate of Tracey Hester’s,
a high school teenager that became a donor, who is helping to put this memorial event on. He really wants us to have representatives
of LifeGift there to hand out donor registry information but also to talk to those in attendance about donation. Two high
schools in Sugarland are actually working together to make this event happen! I’d like to have at least two volunteers
there to help! Angie Eldam is volunteering would anyone else like to help her?
- Monday October
6: Consulate General of Mexico Health Fair
9am-12pm
4507 San Jacinto/ 77004 (At San Jacinto and 59)
Ariana will be working this event and would love to have any bilingual
Vital Volunteers who’d like to help reach out to the adult Hispanic Community come and help her! I’d like at least
one Volunteer there to help her spread the word about donation to this community!!
- Friday October 17th: KPMG Health Fair
10am-2pm

This is a Corporate

registry!
- Saturday November 1: Champions Community Center
Health Fair
10am-2pm
